The same plan
applied to these as to
other punishments.
Of the several modes of punishment that issue
solely from the political sanction we have just finished our
account; we now come to the description of those which are
referable to the Moral.
To pursue the plan Same plan throughout we set out upon, and to give
such an account of the punishments of this class as shall
correspond to the account already given to those which
are referable to the former, we must continue to arrange
our disquisitions under the same heads we have all along
adopted. We must accordingly consider, 1. The several kinds
into which the punishments of this class may be distributed.
2.ly The evils which those several kinds of punishment
are respectively adapted to produce. 3.ly The several
methods in which they may respectively be inflicted. In all these
heads [our enquiries on the present occasion be very short a word or two as we shall see presently will suffice ] and that
for reasons which will presently appear.

of no distinctions.
