Grants in Reversion not worse more indefensible than for joint lives
in succession.
Pernicious unwarrantable as both are both these modes of dissipation
they are not in this respect exactly upon a par: the
grants a reversion outdo in this respect grants for
joint lives are outdone in this respect by grants for
of reversions.
In the case of a grant for joint lives made upon
a vacancy both the candles as the phrase is are set began
alight burning not together: where the first is old the
second will be old in proportion.
In the case of the grant of a reversion the same
present occupant may be old to any degree of old caducity
age the reversioner young to the promising
degree of probable vitality. And he to him <add>of him</add> whose
influence enables him to procure a favour of this kindin this shape
the probable brevity of the existing life will be as material
and natural an object of attention as the annual
value of the benefice.
In the case of the reversion there is moreover something
more deliberate than in the other case in the view which a man the granter can not
but take have taken of the injury he is doing to posterity: to the
people, in future days if it be for the advantageinterest of the people, that the in
those days there should be such things to give, to the interest
at any rate of the K Sovereign of that time, of whose interest who if it be fit that the
Sovereign of any time should have such things to give, it will not
be easy to say why it should be in the power of the Sovereign
for the time being to make a sacrifice.
