Sinecures
Suppose Mr Spencer Percival to bring in a Bill,
or suppose Mr Canning or a Lord Castlereagh
to bring in and Mr Percival to support a Bill
forbidding in general terms the Minister for the time being, or in a
manner of a præstigium addressed to Mr Spencer
Percival by name forbidding him ever to advise
his Majesty to make peace or to forbear doing his
utmost to prevent peace from being made – forbidding
him the such officer viz. on pain of a fine to an amount
not less than the value of an amount of £38,000
or whatsoever lesser sum might be found to remain
after deduction made of the unspecified deductions
nobody who would doubt of the tendency of such Bill if carried
into a law to prevent peace – to produce to perpetuate the continuance
of war – nobody who would doubt that the prevention
of peace that the continuance of war during the
life of the said Mr Spencer Percival was the object
of the Bill, or at least among the objects of it.
