Sinecures

Not that from in this or any other cause case any
danger could reasonably be apprehended from characters
so great and so pure as those of Lord Melville
and Mr Percival, but that in the case of
a virtual law as above authorizing and enabling Great
characters in their high situations to dispose of the
property of the public to any amount to this one
use the precedent having been in those instances
sooner or later by some untoward accident it
might happen that the same power falling into
other hands not known to us as these are
men to whom by some untoward accident it might happen to give a preference to interest over duty might
men might at some distant period be found even in
more high situations might at some distant period be found
inconvenience whereupon and so at that distant same period might in some
shape or other chance to arise.
