Sinecures
I have heard murmurs, and from authority which
to the same good authority that just now Sir
Vickery is more particularly in a very particular degree upon the alert:
and should it happen to that Great Law Officer
to conceive to be of opinion that in case of Sir the said Mr Percival
being so influenced as aforesaid he the said Mr
Percival would either arbitrarily or comparatively
be unfit for such his high situation as aforesaid
or that to be by being supposed likely in any degree to be
so influenced the feelings of him the said Mr
Percival would be most prejudiced injured or violated
then and in such case it might happen
to the said Sir Vickery to be of opinion that this
paper which I am now writing is a libel, and against
myself me for the publishing of such libel to
information &c is offered accordingly.
These things being considered as touching and
concerning him the said Mr Percival I do not
regard it as probable that on the occasion above
mentioned, he the said Mr Percival would be influenced
to wit in any improper manner by the
consideration above mentioned. And this declaration,
I make freely and voluntarily and before any information filed, and with all the
sincerity which such law, so declared as aforesaid,
is calculated to inspire.
