But now that the practice having b after it has met with denuntiators
has met with defenders – defenders by whose
power all hope of remedy is excluded the door is shut against all hope of remedy – defenders
by whom the not only the practice is defended and avowed
but avowed as a principle is the application of which
there is are no bounds is no limit so long as a single penny is left
in the pocket of the existing owners in it, not
being sharers in the plunder, the time seems to me to
be arrived when at which it seems incumbent on all men to whom
either property or liberty or the constitution in which
task such their sole protection is an object of regard – in
men by whom this most pernicious of
(for though the practice is not yet such the principle
is; is regarded as a fit object of resistance to join
hands and as well as hearts in that necessary work.
That To me the people in its lowest ranks are no under any
provocation – under any excitement object of terror alarm: to me the only objects of terror are those
to whose pusillanimity of or negligence and not to their
forbearance. I feel myself indebted for the preservation of
my moderate but sufficient share of the means of subsistence, and for
my not having to drag or pine on in a jail the few remaining
days which I can have to live.
