When in this way the profits of an office have
swollen to a certain magnitude risen to a certain pitch, sooner or later a discovery
is made that it is too good a thing to be enjoyed
by a man who does any thing for it: and upon
the same principle to which we are indebted for royal mines
and royal fish, and so many other royal things, it becomes
a fish willing to be enclosed in the royal nets.
For the notice of the King himself they are not large high enough: but for those few
whom nothing of this sort, nothing that is good for which there is nothing to do be done.

For the business of those who print about a Court
and share or contest with one another the possession
of the royal ear, one part consists in the keeping
a look out after those and other such good things.

Among those distinguished persons little less than almost half
a century ago viz. in the year 1784 1764 heard
as he does sometime or other still one Duke of Egmont. Fortune it were used to be
observed
said of him at that time had not been altogether
so liberal to him his Lordship of in his own purchase gifts, not Providence
had been in the article of loyalty and this what many other
virtues are which that Cardinal Court numbers amongst
