15 March 1810
Sinecures

From By this disturbance the power order of the alphabet receives such
a shock, that after being several times unhorsed
by a variety of rival principles it does not is unable to fix itself
firmly in the saddle till it comes to article 44
"Doorkeeper" after which it continues triumphant so
long as the scene continues to be as that Honourable
Court, marshalling according to its own principles
the several articles from 44 to 73 inclusive.

This struggle is repeated renewed and with similar results
in each of the three remaining Westminster Hall Courts of Justice, viz:
the Kings Bench, the Common Pleas and the Exchequer.

At the word Exchequer, article 131, another contest
takes place viz. that between the principle of Justice and the principle of Finance.
Sometimes the one, sometimes the other one obtains the placing of an nomination of an article,
the principle of the alphabet after a few concessions
made to the principle of dignity, the principle of the
alphabet uniting its force joining its force sometimes to that of the one,
sometimes to that of the other.

This lasts till we come to article 144: after which
comes a sort of O.P. dance among the judicial
offices, amongst one comes a sort of O.P. dance, performed
by a variety of contending principles of arrangement, the
principle of the alphabet finding the means of
maintaining the ascendent long enough to have enjoy the
nomination marshalling of a few successive articles.

Then viz. at article 40 186, comes the Exchequer
and more, but not now as before in the mixt character
of a Court of Justice and a Court or Office of Finance,
but in the latter character alone, determining the place bringing in without any
regard to the alphabet, articles from 208 to 215 inclusive.
