If in an engraved representation of a next of boxes,
12 suppose in number, all were to be represented as
of the same size, of an exhibition of this sort it is
everybody sees at once how necessarily misconception
must be the result.

Such would Similar In regard to these ideal compartments
to which to facilitate conception fictitious objects are
distributed by the inquiring mind similar would be the result
if without distinction between articles respectively containing
and contained they were all placed in a line upon a par with one
another either in the same perpendicular column or in the
same horizontal line.

If in the case of the nest of boxes above spoken of the several
boxes were represented each of them of its real size, or
if reduced, each of them reduced in the same proportion
it would then be seen that the number of them could not

a lesser number were exhibited it might a discovery
might be made with certainty wh how many were the
articles omitted, and in what situations places they should ought to have
been inserted placed.
