Sinecures
Applied to a list constructed framed upon any such plan
as the above, a small mark in any form, once explained,
and as often as needful repeated, would have served
to show the several offices in relation to which informa endeavours
had been employed used by the Committee to obtain
information: and by another such mark intimation
might have been given of the several instances in which
those endeavours had proved unsuccessful failed of success.
But where by a failure of this sort a presumption
more or less strong is afforded of delinquency in some
quarter or other, delinquency consisting in a contempt
of the authority, the honestly and usefully employed
authority of the Commons House of Parliament,
a simple indication of failure can not only be regarded
as sufficient.
No. In such a case a demand is seen itself presents itself
to arise for a separate
for a Table in which all these instances of certain
failure on one part, and but too probable on the
other, shall stand exhibited; and that in company
with their respective causes: causes for the designation of which
the necessary number of columns with their appropriate
titles would accordingly be to be provided.
