In the list here in question, much attention appears
not to have been expended upon any such claims.
In the list of the Offices belonging to Court of Chancery we find
one which the while the denomination here given the word Office being the first of the words employed in
to the giving denomination to it, is placed in the rank
which is indicated by letter O the initial letter of that
word. Art. 54. "Office for execution of Laws
"and Statutes concerning Bankrupts". Bankruptcy Office
is probably the title which in an alphabetical Index
would probably have been given to this Office by an
ordinary Index-maker: Bankruptcy Office had the
name of the Office been regarded as sufficient: Bankruptcy
Office Clerk of, had the official title of the
person by whom the Office is filled been thought proper
to be expressed: Bankrupts – Office for execution of Laws
and Statutes concerning, had the ordinary Index-maker
been as fond of words and at the same time as
much distressed for apt modes of expression, as on
the present occasion, our this extraordinary Index-maker
appears to be. But in an Index of Offices to begin the denomination with
a word so uncharacteristic as the word Office, and
on the strength of that one word, to have placed place the article
under letter O? – As well might that same letter
have been employed for distinguishing from one another
the whole number of 263 articles with which England
furnishes us.
