Sinecures
Nor would is this apprehension any more than so
many others that we have been alarmed with, be by any
means a vain and or groundless one. For in this same
page 286, we find in another character the same persons
Crown Office on Kings Bench, – the same persons. In the Column of Total
Amounts, £227: so that for figuring in this other character
call it whether it be the second or the third, they have £427 more,
and if not assuredly without doing any thing more for the
£427 than for the £12,510: and if these same noble
persons for being Prothonotary on Kings Bench those noble
persons receive £12,510, and for being Crown Office
on Kings Bench (for this is what on their every the same terms we are assured of)
£427 – will they for being "Clerk of the Crown, King's
Bench be content to receive nothing? shall they be put off with nothing? Forbid it dignity!
forbid it consistency! – forbid it Justice?
