2. Of the whole number of articles exhibited in this
No 72 although by the adjunct gross "gross" prefixed
to the word "amount" in the title to the Column of terms intimation is given of the existence
of deductions as having place in relation to every sum
contained in it, there are but two articles in which the sums
respectively to be deducted, are so much as professed to be given.
These are Lord Arden the Admiralty Registrarship £ gross amount £33,478
"the deductions out of which" (it is said) are stated in the Return
to be £23,733:and the first of the same Noble Lord's other two Registrarship, viz. that "of the High Court of Appeals for
Prizes Gross amount £5,188 deductions stated in the same terms at £2,279.

In relation to the largest at least of these two masses of deductions
in the breast on the part of any person in whose breast a real desire were
entertained of conveying and for the purpose of conveying of
obtaining the info in relation to this article in a compleat as well
as correct state, the information belonging to this article,
a the desire a curiosity would one should have thought have been apt to
be entertained in relation to the items of which so
large a sum might be found to consist: it being especially if
it were considered, that admitting that of the £33,000 odd
so large a portion as £23,000 odd missed its way into
the pocket of the Noble Lord Sinecurist it by no means followed that
the whole of it, no nor that so much as half of it was in any way
applied to the benefit of the public service. Supra not infra

As far however as appears, no such curiosity was by
this select portion of the Grand Inquest of the Nation entertained:
or if entertained, and thereupon satisfied, the satisfaction was at any
rate is obtained and enjoyed in secret, no public traces of the matter
which it fed upon had to feed upon being visible.
