Had this been in the number of the Offices visited by the
Committee of 1797-8 these mysteries dark spots together with various
others which the account here given of it presents might
have been cleared up; but no such eye has visited
it.
Article 296 Ireland: eighth of those afforded by that Kingdom.
Article 8. Architect for building new Law Courts: Whole estimated expence in the Department for this year £25,000.
Here is an expence most certainly: but where is there in
it of numerality? of regular annual occurrence? that
it may occurr in other years is but too probable: but
so may any other head of expence: and whe in other years if it does
occur it may in each year be any number of times,
greater than this amount, or any number of times less,
and let it occurr as often as it may and to what amount it may, what
has it to do either with "Salaries" or with "Fees"?
than anything of the like nature.
Article 359 Coal Yards ..... £300 £200
Article 364 Commercial Buildings ..... £143
382 Incorporated Society ..... 343
404 of Pratique Office (Dublin Port) Whole estimated expence ..... 1,047
409 Quit Rents ..... 1,553
These examples articles without need of looking not to look for any others, will
serve as examples of so many cases in which the regu
either the non-existence of any regularly recurring expence in
the amounts in question is clear, or the existence of it is involved
in doubt: in doubt, for the solution of which no materials are to be found in any part of
this Report.
