The degree of attention practicality exactness with which the rule of precision is
Such being the rule, the degree of attention bestowed
upon the observance of it naturally proportions adjusts itself
to two circumstances, viz. 1. the danger probability of misconception on the part of those for whose use the discourse is
to which in the event of its non-observance, the danger of misconception
viz. on the part of those for whose use the
discourse is all designed intended. 2. the magnitude of the inconvenience
of with which such misconception, in the event
of its taking place may be attended productive: and between the
case of a last will for example and the case of an a
desire role open power, intermediate gradation in no inconsiderable
number might probably be distinguished.
Accordingly In proposing the above in the character of a general
rule, I mean not to exempt hold it up to view
as altogether exempt from that fasting imperfection to which generalities
are so generally liable exposed, viz. that of being cut into
by exceptions.
One is, where by the a deviation the purpose of amusement
may promises to be more effectually provided for them
by the observance: and forasmuch as This is the exception exemption
of which poetry for example seems justly entitled to
claim the benefit especially in those modifications of
it in which pure amusement, unclogged unencumbered with any
such dry and heavy matter as instruction information is intended.
