§. Sinecures in the seed or egg.

Sinecures ardently spring up in this reign

but an assistant – the assistant doing all the business. advice. Business found for two persons, the 2d to be appointed, and
the present one's salary to be raised from £500 to £600.
Substitution of Pounds to individuals. survivorship.
Every overpaid is pregnant with a Sinecure.

After so great a bustle as that which has been made
about Sinecures, a supposition an expectation that will naturally be
apt to present itself is – that to whatsoever it may happen
to be left unabolished, at least any rate there will be no more
of this expectation if any such has been formed disappointment
however seems the natural destiny. In that principle
of corruption which pervades the whole frame of the government,
and which till a parliamentary reform shall take
place will continue to pervade it, may be seen a
hotbed perfectly well adapted to the raising of this produce:
and in the wisdom prudence and tenderness of those Committees a source
of culture not ill adapted to this species the purpose of husbandry.

1. The relaxation of Official discipline has already
been mentioned already among the mischiefs produced by the
Sinecure system mention has been made already of the relaxtion
of Official discipline. In this morbid symptom weakness may be seen Which it serves to account for
the cause of many of whose which are already in existence: in the
same morbid symptom may be seen the adequate and
ready cause of an indefinite number of future contingent ones.
