Portrait of a Sinecurist in possession

A Sopha stuffed with Eider-down, shown by the depth
of the impression made in it, a noble person reposing in
his Robes de Chambre, his coroneted head supported by
a pyramidical pile of pillows, after the Russian fashion: his
occupation, picking his teeth: his nails, after the fashion of
a Chinese "great character" in his high situation, in length
somewhat less than his toothpick, with a considerable incurvature
by the length will be typified, the idleness consttuting one of the characteristic qualities proportions of the great character, as by the curvature,
his rapacity.

Portrait of a Sinecurist in possess expectancy

At the opposite end of the sopha, the heir appar a cradle with
the heir apparent lying in it: over it a coronet suspended
by a hair: the three Fates, one of them in the act of
taking hold of the hair with his left hand, another with
a pair of scissors in his right, preparing about to cut it, but were
with she not for the time not she at the same time withholden by the third
of the weird Sisters.

Duly supported by a proper solution the City authorities, human mortal and allegorical,
Mr Waithman, with his scissors, endeavouring preparing to cut
the nails of the adult Sinecurist, but prevented by a lawyer
properly who in his robes of office interposes between the
consecrated nails and the menacing scissors a shield
of parchment, in the form of a deed folded in the usual parallells
form, with the legend endorsed – the marus aheneus esto.

Hovering in the air
encircled with a cloud
the lawyer's constant
mentor a guardian Angel
in his well known costume
chucking his pupil under
the chin with one hand,
and clapping him on
the back with the other.
