Sinecures
By an artist picture Mr Gilray, these loose words tenets might be employed
corrected, improved upon, and employed with masterly effect. But
unfortunately Mr Gilray's graver is, it is said, like
Lord North the sort of reciprocity spoken of by Lord North
all on one side, a circumstance by which it is rendered
doubtful, whether in that this particular instance it would might
not be for the advantage of the public service, if a
transfer could be made from the name of the article of from the
list of Pensioners to the list of Sinecurists.
Whatsoever were the ideas expressed as above by the
graver, one use for the engraving might be to stand officiate,
in the character of a head-piece, to an alphabetical list
of Sinecurists, favorites of royalty and fortune, votaries of sloth and instruments of corruption villains and propagators, under
their several distinctions of Sinecurists, Reversioners, and
Joint life-men.
