Sinecures

Upon the whole, Under the name of Sine Office the nothing
being done for the office, waste and corruption may be
made to wear and do actually wear a mask cloak
such as could not be made to sit on them in
company with the name of pension.

And with this circumstance feature before their eyes,
for this at any rate is was before their eyes – with
the distinguishing feature of abuse full in view, it is that the
by those appointed Guardians of the public purse
and the public morals, the more apt instrument
of waste and corruption is in the first place placed by them upon the same level with
the less apt instrument of the same enormities. and
in conclusion the continuance and continued use of
it recommended directly recommended in express terms without disguise.

Such is the are the opinions delivered by that the
first of the two Committees whose steps we have seen Committees which was the first of those whose steps
have been directed to this ground.

Such as we have seen is the cloak made
at that time in the name for the abuse: and by in the hands of their successors
in the same line of service, the duty office of applying
this instrument to its destined use, has not
it will be seen been converted into left in the condition a Sinecure.

In the censure from which it was scarce possible
that Sinecures should receive a compleat exemption altogether be exempted, it could
not reasonably be expected that the future Clerk of the
Irish signet should be harshly severe. Even before his
first campaign in the field of gallantry, Clodius could not consistently
have been
heard inveigling in
unguarded terms against
an amusement
to one which certain requests
have been forward to fixt actual
a harsher name.
