As to honour, there seems no reason why to him
whose offence is least a degree reward, whether in the
shape of honour, or in any other should be
ascribed bestowed attributed

Unfortunately the in comparison of the length and
multitude of the degrees and the consequent total
length which the scale of delinquency admitts of
that of punishment is comparatively short and
inadequate. Thus much at any rate may
be said, viz. that between the two degrees of delinquency
punishment allotted to the two degrees of delinquency
the difference ought to be very great and as to
which ought to be the highest, the consider obviousness
of the answer considered the question is such as
can scarcely without increasing the charge of subjecting its questioners to trifling
ought scarcely to be put.
