with Proviso that
persons taken in London
shall first be carried
before the Lord Mayor
or an Alderman & then
sent to the Justice who
granted the Warrant
PROVIDED ALWAYS, and be it enacted, that in
case any person or persons shall be apprehended within the
city of London under a Warrant signed by any Justice, or
Justices of the peace not acting within the Guildhall Division
for any crime, fact, matter, or charge, arising happening or
being without the said City, the person or persons so
apprehended shall first be carried before the Lord Mayor, or
some Alderman of the said City, who upon suggestion being
made that the crime, fact matter, or charge, happened, arose
or was committed within the said City, shall forthwith
permit and direct the person or persons apprehending,
or having the person or persons so apprehended in Custody,
immediately to convey the person or persons so apprehended and
in Custody, before the Justice or Justices who granted and signed the said Warrant.
The City Magistrates should have a power
to hear the matter of complaint if they think fit, and deal
with offender according to Law -
