Staircases

Quere how to plan
and light them in
the Sub-Terrace
Houses.

For the indolent,
passage up to the
Circus by a cylindrical
shaft or
wall — the mounting
stage aperture
almost but not
quite airtight —
It and the mounting
a counterpoise
descending down another
shaft which
if the Counterpoise
were heavy ex. gr.
lest you might
be of small diameter. —

Or the Counterpoise
might be an equal
and similar mounting-stage
in an a
shaft of equal diameter.

Could the range of Ground Wall
be afterwards thickened
to serve as
a range of House Wall?

Would it require
thickening for that
purpose?

Subterranean Passage.
Frigidar.

Besides serving for
Panopt. it might
break off to Frigidarium,
which
would thus contribute
to the ornament of the
Pleasure Grounds.

Windows Slits of the Terrace
Houses — to be
Gothic. Windows
like those in the Ranelagh
Road House.

The Bows would
thus be more Casteleish
and accord
with the Battlements.
And the stile would
admitt of irregular Staircase
Windows in the front.

The range of Shops
might have Dungeon
Windows in front,
underneath them:
and the p in a
line with these Windows
the Passages
to the Terrace. Houses
might have
Dungeon-Entrances
for Crates to come in,
and Dust & Night-Soil
to go out.

for Water Visitors
to be built first of
all the Terras Houses.
To be built at the
extremity by the
Bank Wharf.

Form mainly cylindrical,
and of a large
diameter.

A Lodge
Highest room lighted
by a large circular skylight.
Underneath the skylight
an equal aperture in
the floor of the highest room
to light the highest
room but one.

Having benches all
round it, it will
serve for a Common
Room.
