Punishment 𝓧 Restraint – Warburton

nor a mountain nor anything else, that
a man can really and literally be laid under.
Add the word act to each, make them each significant
of a thing that is a species of the thing signified
by the word act, we may then by that means
render them capable of being in some sort put in parallelism.
An act of punishment is an act whereby pain
is produced or intended to be produced for th in a person
for on account of some act that has been already done, & for the sake
of a certain end. An act of restraint is an any act act whether of punishment or any other, whereby a person is prevented or d intended
to be prevented from doing something in future.
Nearer than this in the comparison between the
thing signified by restraint & the thing signified
by punishment I see not how it is possible to come.

In conclusion, it seems to me that words that significative that of real are have no common genus are not properly commensurable:
that words whereof one is significant that have a common genus
are properly commensurable: that words significative
of real entities are properly commensurable;
[being all names of substances motions
or sensations} that words whereof one is significant
of a real the other of a fictitious entity
are not property commensurable: that of of pairs of words
both significant of fictitious entities, multitudes
are incommensurable, not having any common genus:
and that words that are no property commensurable
