Corporal Punishment analysed.

is restrained from being there it is called Banishment.
In the latter case The boundaries by which the place is circumscribed
are either physical subal or ideal In the
former case the means whereby the restraint is
imposed may be either physical or moralmental: physical
when it is effected by the vis inertiæ of some
matter wherewith the place is bounded [+]. In moral mental

motion of the body when it is effected by the apprehension of
pain operating on the mind. In the first case
the restraint is called has obtained the name of Imprisonment:
in the latter it has obtained as yet no
particular name but may be called, Quasi-Imprisonment Territorial
Confinement.

When the restraint produced is of the sortwhat we have stiled
complex integral restraint, the punishment
