a propensity to inflict it; and most in all imaginable degrees:

3. The relation of the party punished to the act.
3. As to the relation of the party punished to the act for
which the punishment was inflicted. The party to whom
the punishment is immediately applied may either be the
same person who did that at, or another person. In the
first case the punishment may be stiled punishment
in proprium personam, punishment inflicted on the very
person who did the act: I would call it autostatous

in alienum personam, punishment inflicted on a person
