punishment taken by itself, - no translation here is here put to the description of the person of the Agent.
But, on the occasion of thethis present wish this
person is all along considered as a person invested for this
purpose with the authority of the state: thea legislator appointing
the species of evil to be inflicted on a species
of case, or a Judge, appointing the individual lot of evil
to be inflicted in an this or that individual case.
