Whole body with respect to Loco-motion.

Besides these several modes of disablement, to
which the members are separately liable, the
whole body is subject to be disabled [altogether]
with respect to the faculty of loco-motion.
This effect In the way cannot there
be produced without death; in a in the
way it may be produced by several
causes
is but one means by which this effect can be produced: to wit by connecting
any part of the body with any portion of immovable
matter. In the temporary way it
may be produced by various means. 1st By
any violent application of the mechanical kind
to any part of the lower extremities, which are
the principal organs of the faculty of loco-motion.
2dly By any stop put to the faculty of
respiration: 3dly By any violent external application
to of the mechanical kind to the brain, as a blow
upon the skull. 4thly By various applications
acting applied of the physiologically kind to upon the brain, through
the medium of the stomach.
