The properties of the human body are constituted
of its visible qualities or & its faculties: its visible
qualities constitute consist of its colour and shape,
the faculties are the organs themselves or the specific
functions performable by those organs.
Never three distinct species of punishment.
The first affecting the exterior appearance of
the person, its visible qualities — the second deformation
affecting the organical faculties without destroying
the organs themselves — the third mutilation
the destruction consisting in the destruction
of the organ itself.
