Disablement. Evils

any one to procure hold possess it.

No more could the organs of conversation. For if conversation
can give us pleasure it must be by
turning upon relating to something that interests us. But nothing
can interest a man except either his
own pains and or pleasures or the pains or pleasures
of some other: which pains and pleasures
are either the pains and pleasures of the senses,
or alternately grounded on them. Suppose those
pains and pleasures not to exist, and any topic
of cons conversation, be it ever so interesting
would cease to be so. It is a decisive experiement
and one that what any one may make.[a]

NOTE.

[a] The pains and pleasures of a future life are by no
means an exception. The joys of reason, or pains words pains of hell
of hell would convey to our minds no idea at
all were it not for the pleasures pains, nor the
words pains of hell joys of heaven, wee it not for the pleasures
of the senses. The pleasures of a religious conversation
however exquisite could not exist, were
it not for the pleasures of the senses. The [For] pleasures of a religious conversation turn ultimately upon the prospect of partaking of the joys of heaven, & of escaping the pains of hell. [Now] And The joys
of heaven however superior to and however disparate they may be prove in themselves
from the pleasures of the senses [when the
lat former come to be experienced], could make no
impression on t us here below, but by the medium if it were not for the
latter. All In all this then is no more than what this is obviously and necessarily included
