Laborious Active Punishment

Laborious Compulsive Active Punishment is that which is inflicted on a man
by obliging him (or to use another word compelling) to do act in this or that particular
way: to exert this or that particular species
of action.

There are two ways kinds of means by which a mans t a man may
be obliged compell'd to act; physical and moral; the first
A man may be said to be obliged to applies itself merely to his body as it would might to so
much inanimate matter: the other applies itself
to his mind; even to that faculty of it which is
stiled volition.

A man may be said to be obliged to do any act
by more physical

In the first case then a man may be said to
be subjected to compulsion or a conpu constraint by physical means; by
the force of a physical instrument: or in a word
to physical compulsion or constraint.

By physical means, there are very few are in
comparison are the actions to which a man could
be obliged compelled to perform: so few and so unprofitable
either to himself or others, that they are as not to be worth taking
into any account.

When the instrument is of the moral kind, it
is by acting on the volition that it produces it's
effect.
