As to the severity comparative severity of these
different modes of punishment, where the immediate
cause of death in the same viz, the fever
we have no way of estimating it but by the durations;
& by that means if it were a uniform & known quantity it should seem one might estimate
it with tolerable accuracy. That would be
the severest death under which the patient linger'd
longest.
