that the Soul perishes in the body; as to them, who think
the Soul departs from the Body, some think it is ——
immediately dissipated; others that it continues a
long time: others, for ever; but what the Soul itself is, or
where or from whence it is, is a great dispute; some think
the Heart itself is the Soul, whence men are said to be
excordes, vecordes and concordes; and the prudent Nasica
that was twice Consul; was called Corculum, Catus —
Aelius Sextus was said to be a man Egregic cordalus, ——
Empedocles thinks that the blood about the heart, is
the Soul, others that a certain part of the Brain has
the principal part. others neither — like the heart
nor the part of the brain for the Soul: but some way —
that its place of residence is the brain. others the —
Heart, some call the |Anumus||anima| as we do commonly,
for we say the Anima Acts, and breaths, and we call people
Animosi and well animati, we use the Expression also
ex animi Sententiâ; and indeed the word Animus is
named from Anima. Zeno the Stoick thinks the Soul
is fire, but these, which I have mentioned, are the —
the most common Opinions, namely, that the Soul is
the Heart, the brain, the Anima, and the Fire; there
are a great many other opinions of the Antients received
by particular Men. next Aristoxenus, both musician
and Philosopher, thinks it is a kind of a certain —
