this Opinion his disciple Pythagoras confirmed: who
coming into Italy in the Reign of Tarquin the proud,
held that large Country, Greece with honour and discipline,
as well as with Authority; and many Ages afterwards
the name of Pythagoreans was in such high repute,
that none else were looked upon as learned in comparison
with him, but I must return to the antients: they ——
commonly did not give an account of their opinions, ——
unless there was any thing to be explained by numbers
or descriptions they relate that Plato, out of of a desire to see
Pythagoras's disciples, came into Italy and was acquainted
with many others as well as with Archytas and Timaeus,
and having learn't all their tenets, not only was of the
same opinion with Pythagoras concerning the eternity
of the Soul but had also given an account of it, which,
unless you have any thing to say, we will pass over
and leave all this hope of immortality. Auditor. do

have raised me to the highest pitch of expectation?
I had absolutely rather be deceived with Plato, whom
I know you make so much of, and whom your account
of, has made me so much admire, than to be of Opinion
