who have seen the Sea that parts Africa from Europe;
what Spectacle it must be then, when we are at Liberty
to Contemplate the whole Earth; and observe at leisure,
the Situation, form, Circumference, its habitable —
regions, and those which on account of the Extreams of
heat and Cold are uninhabitable? for we even now
do not see by our Eyes: but as (not only the natural
Philosophists teach but also the Physicians who
have seen those things explained and clearly ——
demonstrated) there are a kind of Passages made
from the Eyes, ears and nostrils to the Soul, therefore
oftentimes when we find an inconveniency from any
disease or too much thought, though we have our Eyes
and Ears open and without hurt, we neither see nor
hear; by which we may easily understand, that the
Soul both sees and hears, and not those parts which
are as it were the windows of the Soul by which however
the Mind could not have sense, unless that was to Act
and support it. what, though we comprehend by the
same mind things the most unlike one to another, as
colour, taste, heat, smell, sound, yet the Soul could
never know by these five instruments, unless all—
things were referred to it, the Sole judge of all things.
and these things doubtless are seen much clearer
and more intelligible, when the Soul may go ——
whithersoever its Inclination carrys it. for now,
