all gave things their names, which seemed to Pythagoras,
the Production of most consummate Wisdom? or he, who
first gathered together the race of Men, who were before
scattered up and down the Earth, and formed them into —
Society, or who terminated the Sounds of the voice, —
which seemed infinite, in a few letters: or who pointed
out the Courses, the regressions, the stoppings of the stars?
these were all, undoubtedly, great Men: but those who
found out the use of corn, and invented Cloathing, —
houses, a regular manner of living, and fences against
Wild Beasts, were still more so: by whose instructions
and refinements, we came from the having bare necessarys,
to the having the Conveniences of life: for an Entertainment
for the Ears was invented; from the Observation of the ——
variety, properties, and proportion of Sounds: and ——
Astronomy, which taught us to behold, both the fixed
Stars, and those we call Planets, (tho' in fact they do not
wander, as we imagine), he who contemplated their —
turnings and Motions, shew'd us, that his Soul, was —
like unto that of their heavenly creator; for Archimedes,
who — represented by a sphere the Motions of
the Sun, the Moon, and the five Planets, effected the
same that Plato's God in Timaeus did, who he represented as
having created the World, — namely he demonstrated
that the heavenly bodies moved in a regular order, —
