Dear Sir, Queen's Coll. March 29. 1763
I was favoured with Your letter: And as to Your
Son's speaking at the Encomia; I shall be very ready to do all
in my power to promote it; & if he produces something very
clever, I hope I shall be able to bring it about, by the help of
of the V. Chancellor. But of the goodness of his production
the inspectors will be the judges. Young Gentlemen of rank
& quality will doubtless have the preference; but as two or
three Commoners spoke at Lord Westmorland's installation,
there will in all probability some of the same gown
speak on the ensuing occasion. In case Your Son should
be of the number, his age & size (as You observe) will
not be a disadvantage to him: Though I am afraid his
voice will be too weak for the Theatre.— I have acquainted
him with Your desire; & he intends to try what he
can do.— D.r Dixon of my Brethren of the Common
room join in complim.ts with D.r S.r
Your most obed.t hble Serv.t J. Jefferson
