Dear Sam,
The Description you give us of the Situation of the House you
propose for us for our Habitation, tho' it seems to be Hobson's
Choice, induces us to think of making it our Tent there, if
upon a view of it we find it possible to dispense with the
narrow Conveniences it affords, and for that purpose, we
intend being at Chatham on Whitsunday, where our Scheme
is to take a late Dinner at the Hill House, & from thence
to pay a Visit to Mr Gray - and the next day to —
reconnoitre the Premises. and in case we find it will
be likely to be agreable, we shall probably be down again
sometime the middle of July in order to continue there
Two or three Months — Farr, tho' he is capable of going
to Office every Day, yet is attended there every Day by Mr
Grindal his Surgeon, it being absolutely necessary to keep
the wound in his Leg quite open, the width of the Palm of
one's hand & the Bone bare the length of Three Inches or
more for the purpose ye Bone may exfoliate, or
Scale off, w.ch there is hopes of it's beginning to do soon,
so that you may Judge what a tedious affair it is
likely to prove, & how impracticable it was for us to
prosecute our intended Expedition to Paris, wither we
cou'd not think of going but in a whole Skinn —
you made shift to get to Chatham just time enough to
partake of the Political Bustle, wch seems now to be quite
blown over. and we imagin you are by this time become
