proper, now, for me to write to Mr Pownell myself I determined upon
it, and accordingly wrote him a Letter by yesterday's Post, in which I
took occasion to mention to him my Intention of going to France
with my Family the latter End of next Month & to ask his Leave for
you to accompany me, at the same observing to him, that as
you wod be under Cheque, at during your absence, the Service of the yard
could not suffer by it — and upon the Terms you were under
by your Articles with Mr Gray, that Mrs Whitehouse cou'd not
object to it — probably Mr Pownell will speak to you upon
it, and tell you, it is not in his power to dispense wth
your absence for so long a time, in that case, you may
advise with him, what other application may be proper to be
made — whether to Mr Croby as business of the yard, or
to the Board of Commissrs her in Town — if the latter let
me know — and I will see what I can do there for
you, if necessary —
Burchell the Nursery-man called on me a few days ago,
me a Bill for some Plants &c wch Mr Burket had of him
in Janry last; which I paid, and have sent you herewith,
that you may give it to Mr Burket & receive the money
of him, on my account wch is £1.6.0 —
Your Brother Charles, has some Breaking out upon
him, some where about his Neck, and his Mother
thinking it might be of use to follow the Prescription
wch Dr Debbardaine gave for you in the like case, &
supposing you have a Copy of the Dr's Prescription by you
desires you will transcribe it & send it up as soon
as possible, or did you leave it with your Doctor
or rather Appothecary who made up the medicine for
you at Woolwich, if so, send me his Name, that we
may apply to him for it —
Your affectionate Father
