Ah! Mons:r de Doctr! Il ya bien quelque chose a rabattre
sur le compte de votre dècouverte — Je l'ai essayè
deux fois hier au soir avec Mr le Profr. Maddison;
la lueur de chandelle: aujourd'hui au matin en plein jour avec Mr le Doct.r
Fordyce. Voici ce qui en est. Le composition brûle
sous l'eau a merveille. Un de ces tuyaux a donnè
se peut etre un peu plus d'une pinte (quart
English measure) d'air. Cet air On l'a decantè pour le
debarasser de la fumèe. Outre le decantation on
l'a secouè dans le seconde recipient pour le
debarasser de ce qu'y il pourroit y avoir d:Air
fixable. On y a fait entrer par degrés plusieurs
bulles d'air commun. La-dessus Il y a eu rougeur
& diminution, en verité incontestable,mais
très-faible. L'odeur d'acide nitreux s'y est
trouvè assez forte. Voici ce qui est mon idèe
la-dessus.
Vous savez d'après le rapport du Doctr Priestly,
qu'après que tout l'air respirable ni se trouve

Du Steam-Engine, ce n'est qu'une idee tres generale &
très-imparfaite que je peux vous donner. L'idèe qu'en
a le Dr meme n'est que tres imparfaite; & la Façon dont

L'inconvenient de la machine ordinaire a quoi

3. Une certain quantité d'air respirable, de l'espece
très-respirable, qu'on a obtenu, comme
vous vous ressouvenez du minium (4 fois ou davantage
plus pur que l'air commun de l'atmosphere)
Cependant quand on y ajoute de l'air commun
il y a encore rougeur &c c'est a dire decomposition
d'air nitreux, quoique faible.
Donc je conclus, que la proportion, qu'il y a d'air nitreux
a l'air respirable, est un peu plus qu'il ne
faut du premier, pour saturer la quantite du le dernier qui est
produit au même instant & qui est au plus haut
degré de purete qu'il puisse ètre.
D'après ces principles principes en ajoutant ce
qu'il faut d'air de l'atmosphere ou bien de l'espèce
tres respirable, vous pouvez calculer exactement
le rapport des quantitès respectifs qu'il y a de ces deux elemens
dans une portion donnèe du produit total de la deflagration.
Voyez dans le Diet. du Chymie l'a
"Clyssas de Nitre." C'est le nom que on y don
produit d'une deflagration du nitre faite d
l'air commun au loin d'etre faite sous l'eau
