On the other hand Nairne is known to advantage by in the Society

in the Transactions. He has more names to his Certificate
than ever were known to have been annexed to a Certificate
before; amongst the rest those of some people (Dr Solanders
for one) who I understand intend ballotting against their own
recommendation. I never heard of any personal objection against
Nairne: but he apprehends himself to have incurred the displeasure
of Banks (whose irascible and vindictive temper
stands upon record in the Preface to Parkinson's publication, in
the affair of Cooke's last expedition with Titer, in which Banks
you know, had it not been for a pique of his was to have been
