In such an office I should my advantageous opportunities
of perfecting myself in the knowledge of the business as
it is and should have sufficient bizare to make
some experiments and apply myself to gain that
knowledge which would enable me to investigate what it
might be. The Profits arising from such a plan
though not very great would enable secure me from the
persecution of and here I might do what I could to
procure me interest for my further advancement or strike
out into some other path in which my Studies might
be more fruitfull.
As to working with my tools I should be affraid perhaps of
striking with an ax in the most masterly manner for fear
of cutting myself and at any rate I should neither not
be able through weakness of body as well as want of
dexterity to do near the work in a day as a common
man would but does it follow from thence that it is impossible
I should be able to direct how work should be done.
or to being a judge of the quality of work of the manner in
which it ought to be done I trust there that practice alone
is insufficient practice may teach how it has been done but
it is mechanics must teach how it ought to be done
As to the Quantity of work there to be sure practice is
necessary it is not by canting the lives in which it is expressed
that I should think of doing it
