My Brother you know is as yet unknown although I flatter myself that the
time is near come when he step forth. You know I believe that his
Fragment on Government was supposed to come from Ld Can Ld Mansfield
& Dunning and even by some by Johnson to be the joint work of the two latter.
you it certainly was not my Brother's business to undeceive the public
but one of his Booksellers has told many who is the author, so that
he is just beginning to enjoy the fruits of ten years close application
in the next winter he will publish a much more popular work
I mean less abstracted if or when the relation of which to public
Utility is much clearer seen it will be a much larger work than the
Fragment and to this he will set his name. It is probable
through his means I may some time or other get some introduction.
but nothing less than a friend in the 1st Ld of the Admiralty will
serve me I have many to fight against.
any little encouragement now would set me alive. I am acting against
the advice of all my friends. They want me to engage in a Private yard
to spend my whole life or at least the younger part of it in the drudgery of burning
Timber and patching together Ships for which I must count all such folks as
masters of Collins &c Supposing in that time I amass 20,000 when
at a time when these faculties are weakened by the assistance of
which I meant to spend it alone I could enjoy the spending it.
I should then be living for the sake of living afterwards wheras
in such a branch as this the means of geting money would be
those which alone I wished to spend I should be doing
all the while that which would be my greatest to do.
