Hon:d Sir I take the liberty of sending you these two letters of Sam's, imagining
they will give you pleasure, and that you
will not grudge the postage of them. My respects wait upon my Mother. My health
is better than when I saw you last. I have taken some pills that were prescribed by Dr
Fordyce to Mr Walton and they appear to have been of service to me. Your's dutifully
and affectionately J.B.

Portsmouth Academy July 5th 1778.

It was not till yesterday evening at my return from St Helens where I went
on fryday morning that I received either of your letters. I had wondered

accident might go a great way in putting the Ship in to the enemy's
hands. power. The means that by which I first thought of effecting this improvement
would were such as I possibly might have gained some credit by. The
alteration I proposed to have made in the apparatus was considerable
and I have told you that his Majesty is mighty fond of this said apparatus.
However I had no sooner descipbed my proposal and by the
desire of the officer Captn &c given directions to the Ship Carpenter to have
it executed, than it occurred to me that the improvement might be
