fountain head of Naval News, I must desire you will send me all
the Intelligence you can, as this is a very interesting Period not only to the Welfare
but to the very Existence of our Country — is the whole of our Fleet return'd
to Plymouth, or only a Part of it - & if so what number of Ships are off
Brest, or gone to Convoy our West India men wch are dayly expected
home - let me know when the Fleet sails from Plymouth, & how
many they consist of - for no Credit is to be given to any thing one
reads in the Papers, wch. renders private Intelligence the more
valuable & satisfactory. I have procured some Franks by
means of our Friend Coln. Clark, but those directed to you
are at Portsmouth are at present of no use to you - but they
will be ready against your removal thither —
above all inform me, my dear Sam, of what Service your
Recommendations have been to you, & what acquaintance
you have made in Consequence of 'em. as you m well
imagine how much I interest myself in what concerns
you. Mr & Mrs Blake are with us at Petersham upon
a visit, & have kindly enquired after you. & with your Mother & desire to be
remember'd to you. your Brother, I suppose you
gone to Colchester on a Visit to Dr Forster, I k n
he is returnd, as I have not seen or heard any
him since he was here, ye Day before he was to set out
for Colchester — Adieu my dear Sam, let me hear from you
soon & that it may give me an account of things answering
to your own wishes, is the most cordial wish of
Your affectte Father
