to have been taken by the members of the House of Commons
on both sides — to have prevented the Tryal,- from what cod
be collected from the Speaker on y Subject, last Fryday.
It seems yt the Board of Admiralty considered themselves
oblig'd to order the Tryal, upon the application of Sir
Hugh for that purpose,— & that it was not in their
power to use their discretion — but many of the
Members of the House insisted the Lords of the Admiralty
had a discretionary power, & might have declined
ordering a Tryal; which was next to saying they
ought to have done it all circumstances considered.
ut the Dye is Cast, & what will be the E
can say. but Admiral Keppel from
numerous family Alliances, & from his long Connection
with the naval officers, seems to have a very great
Party interesting themselves, for him. so that it must
in all Events prove a very disagreable Business. It is
much to be fear'd the Sailing of the Fleets will be retarded,
and that the Public Service will Suffer —
We have, none of us, the least recollection of the House
you mention belonging to Mr Brady, with which your
new Friend Curtis is going to be connected —
as I have told you all I have heard of news relative
to naval matters, let us into as much as you can in return, that
are soon to be at the Fountain of Intelligence — & believe me
