into partnership with him, to give me a share of his business on any other consideration
but that of his own interest. If you could give any considerable sum of money with me,
it does not seem that that could be an inducement for Randal to take me. His private
fortune is too great for him to be at a loss for money in the cource of his business, and
h he has 2 partners already to do his business for him. Very probably you might be able
to find people who would be glad to take me for the sake of th any money which
you should give with me, but besides the chance of your risk there would be of my
not succeeding with such people you have not told me if you could advance any Sum.
I have just now also received a letter from my brother in which he tells me that
Mr Mulford has been with him and that he approves very much of my going to Russia.
As I have said so much already upon that subject in hopes, Sir, that you will think
very differently about my going to what you did when you received my last, let me only
add that as it is a Voyage of no great distance and of which the expence is but 10 guin
including every thing, I can see no bad consequence that can accrue if I
not find things answer my expectations. If I cannot get any of my pro
attended to, there wont be many months of my life lost, nor much money spent.
I shall have been convinced how far it is impossible for me to get any assistance
through that channel. The posts go very regularly to & from Petersburgh and
Ships go to and fro very frequently. Mr Sambouski is going soon and I would
wish if possible to get ready to go with him. He is a man of an excellent public
and private Character. As I have sometimes talked with him about my going there
one day or other, he has been as ingenuous as it is possible for a man to be by telling
me without the least reserve the Characters of several of his Countrymen, and giving
me some excellent hints towards my conduct with respect to them. If I find that things
dont turn out favorably, I can have his company to return with. Least you should
imagine that I may beg you to give me more money for this expedition I will
promise you that I will not ask you to excede my present allowance.
My letter has run out so long that I shall not be able to send it till next post
I shall wait very impatiently to hear from you again and would wish
to be your dutifull as well as your affectionate Son
