I am glad to find my last was so much to your Satisfaction, &
that you have been so successful in your application for Recommendations
you will let me know in your next what Mr Sneyd do's for you, Mr.
Thelusson has been very obliging - your Brother's Friend, Macauley,
may be of great use to you in giving you Letters, to Persons in
Holland with whom you may familiarize there — If Mrs. Ramsay's
People will be able to make me a Set of your Caruntors, whenever
I shall order them it may be y Same thing - otherwise I wod have
them in all Events — Have you seen any thing of your Uncle Grove
in Town, if not by all means write to him, & acquaint him
with your being to Set out directly for y places of your Destination
and it may be er for you to mention, if I have given my
Consent, y more so as in a Letter I wrote to him about two
months ago, I expressed my Disatisfaction at you Intention.
I have inclos'd a Letter to Mr. Bush the Empresses Head Gardener
that may possibly be of use to you, at least it may Conduce
to your Amusement — I wod have you inclose it in a
Cover with such a Direction in German, as you had from Mrs
Lerdiges - As I have given into this Scheme of your's my Dear Sam
of going abroad, without reserve, I hope you will not be wanting
to yourself in your Endeavours to make it answer to you
in all respects - to that End, you cannot be too particular
in your Notices & Observations of every kind, relative to the
Marine in general & all the several Branches of it where ever
you go, but perhaps it may not every where be prudent
or Safe to commit all those observations to Paper least it may give
occasion for suspicion, & Umbrage may be taken to your prejudice
especially at Sweden wch. is a power that is suppos'd to be
least in Amity with G. Britain, upon the present Occasion. your
Business is certainly to Collect all the useful materials of
Information & Intelligence possible, & such, among others, as may
be a means, of recommending you here at home upon your
future, to some public'd appointment or Post. My old acquaintance
