Inley Park, Monday Mark
July 26. 1779.
Dear Sam,
Your last wch came to hand this morning, the hard rain
that fell last night detaining it at Brackley, gives me another
opportunity of writing to you more than I expected; &c.
I am glad to make use of, to express my wishes, & desire
if that may avail, that you will go immediately, to Russia
along with Sambouski — as it will be a great deal to
late for you to take the other places in your way thither,
therefore those other had better be taken in your Russia,
especially as Petersburgh is your principal object,
besides the letters you have thither especially, from Lord
Shelbourne will probably be more regarded from the
lateness of their dates; and it will be a great —
satisfaction to me to think, you are in company
with one you know & have reason to consider as
a friend dispos'd to do you any good office upon
your arrival at Petersburgh; wch you will then find
a very comfortable circumstance, and in that case it
will not be material whether you carry with you any
letters from the Secretary of States office or not —
and I should bid again you would pass the winter more urgently
