Lincoln's Inn Augt 12th 1779.
Dear Sir
When my Father saw you last in Town, he told you of my being
desirous of going abroad to visit the several Dock yards & Ports of the
Northern Countries. He at that time was very much against it
because I had not sufficiently explained to him the motives I had
for going, and the advantages that might probably result from it.
Now however he not only consents to my going, but seems pleased
as well as satisfied at the thoughts of it, and accordingly has given
it me in charge to acquaint you with this change in his sentiments.
I propose setting out in a few days; but not I hope before I may have
the pleasure of having a few lines from you. I had been expecting
the pleasure of seeing you in Town before I went, till some days ago
Mr King of the Coffee House told me he did not suppose you would
come up to Town for some time.
All my friends seem to join in approving my expedition. Mr Mulford
so much so as to have promised me a present of £100 to help defray
the charges of it. I have some mercantile and other money getting
projects upon the anvil, some of which depend upon the success of it.
My Brother will be happy in explaining them to you. If one does
