Thorpe 1 Novr 1779.

Hond Sir
Your favour of Saturday has been
received — I shall come to town on Thursday but
whether on horseback or by the Coach or in
a port chaise will depend on the state of the weather
& of my eyes — on Friday morning I shall hope to
see you at Lincs Inn. In a carriage I can
visit you but not otherwise since the apparatus I
find necessary to protect my eyes is such as I can
not make my appearance is in the state.

Candle light I cannot bear: for which reason I can
not accept your kind invitation to take up my quarter
at Q.S.P. — After sunset my abode will
constantly be in a dark room with my spinnet
